I think there is a flaw in humans. Yet I'm not sure what is it exactly.
Our search for gratification leads us to destroy our Earth. For sure, our orbit around the sun will lead us to another ice age in the future. And to top it off, our sun will die out later.
Of course, these events will happen at a unbelievably long time from now.
Before that, we are changing our environment such that it is virtually impossible to sustain our current state of living, given it continues the way we know it now. I don't think we will be extinct because of it, but the world will be changed and nations as we know them now, will cease to serve their purpose. I think it is inevitable that this happens unless we find a recyclable source of energy. Almost all conflicts have deep rooted links to oil and gas.
Should we fail to find this clean energy, I think that we will evolve to alter our traits slightly. Our state of mind. Our tolerance to "adverse" temperatures. Our attitudes to one another. Most importantly, higher intelligence to be more tolerant of differing views.
Our world's high population density is a hindrance to tolerance. You can close an eye to 99 people, and the 100th person will shoot you. When the other 99 people see your sorry outcome, they build defensive shields around themselves. This traces back to when Man first walked the Earth and lack of communication created vacuums of common understanding between regions of homo sapiens. Different religions. I believe in God. And I feel he probably is disappointed with the way we fight in his name. But I also feel he has given us the necessary skills and genes to change our ways. Not 1 family, not 2 families, not a country, but Man.
It's rather strange, from an alien point of view, to see what we are doing on our planet. Some people kill/ostracise/degrade others because they deem them unbelievers of the ultimate truth. If I were to give an analogy offhand, I would say - A man with a morsel of food gives away his entire portion to a starving neighbour. Multiply this man and neighbour by many times. Soon, every man will be starving and giving food around without having any himself. Every man will die from starvation. My point is, we are eager to help others see the good in our religion, but very often, we give away all goodness and leave little left in ourselves. In our eagerness, we lose check of our own behaviour. We let our pride take control of our goodness and very often, we try to convert names instead of the essence.
But change I believe we will. Maybe not anyone alive at this moment, but perhaps generations down the road. Many times, we lose a sense of how vast our Earth is. In our frustration, we try to change whichever communities cross our path, but realistically, only a good channel of communication will allow neighbours to have a common ground. And communication involves receiving and giving. It means many times, we have to give half of what we have and take half of what the other has. Like a baby is born from a sperm and egg.
I am sure in every aspect of our lives, we can find an unwillingness to give a clean half and take a clean half. We choose to give/take selective portions. More often than not, we remain the same person because of this reluctance.
I am confident that one day, we will not end up the way of the helpless dinosaurs, but unite to find solutions of survival in wherever we can. This post is not in reference to any single person or group in particular. I just thought of it after watching some programme on tv. hahaha..
